Marriott Showcase Site Launches Exclusive Collaboration with SPARTAN Race and TRX

Global hospitality megabrand Marriott launched a new fitness concept at the Anaheim Marriott, its showcase facility for the US West Coast. The goal is to roll this concept out to further locations as new owners and developers visit the Anaheim facility for inspiration.

Unveiled in December, the new concept offering – conceived by Growth Fitness Design (GFD), a specialist in the guest workout experience, and developed in collaboration with digital fitness leader Wexer – is Anaheim Marriott’s latest initiative to meet the demands of today’s increasingly fitness-focused traveler.

The initiative sees the hotel team up with global fitness brands SPARTAN Race and TRX to transform its in-house fitness offering.

“The new fitness center at Anaheim Marriott has taken its inspiration from the equipment, accessories and experiences found in today’s boutique fitness studios,” explains GFD’s CXO David Shaw. “The feel, flow and workout options in the gym have been totally reconfigured, creating separate yet seamless training zones.”

The Spartan-TRX functional and HIIT training zone is a first for Marriott. A digital welcome screen sees Randy Hetrick of TRX and Joe De Sena of SPARTAN Race greet guests with a personalized motivational message, while the workout space itself features turf flooring, SPARTAN Race fitness products and accessories, and inspirational murals on the walls.

Supporting this is a collection of training content that’s been custom-created for Marriott by SPARTAN Race and TRX. Guests can access this virtual content, on-demand, via a 65-inch Wexer touchscreen on the fitness floor. They then simply follow the on-screen instructors for a top-class workout.

An extensive library of other Wexer content can also be accessed, on-demand, through the touchscreen, ensuring guests have all the workout inspiration they need at whatever time of day or night they choose to work out.

“Partnering with well-known brands SPARTAN Race and TRX, we have been able to create something at Anaheim Marriott that goes far beyond the typical hotel gym,” says Wexer CCO Daniel Waide. “It’s exciting to see how virtual fitness content, already well used in group exercise studios around the world, can also be harnessed to create a highly engaging, motivational experience in a multi-purpose fitness space.”

Alongside Wexer, TRX and SPARTAN Race, suppliers at the new facility include Life Fitness and Octane; Anaheim Marriott features the first North American hospitality installation of Octane Fitness’ new MT8000 cross-trainer.

Insider's Guide To Spas: Indian Wells Resort & Spa Redefines the Hotel Workout

Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa is proud to unveil a revolutionary new Fitness Center, redefining the hotel workout experience by presenting visual luxuries, as well as an unprecedented roster of technological advances rarely available in a hotel setting.

The transformed venue provides access to leading workout breakthroughs, from on -demand classes to shared training and customizable apps. Purposely designed to present a fresh interior aesthetic, this hotel venue also takes into account trends and products found in the world’s top boutique gys, including equipment and zones for cardio, HIIT (high intensity interval training), low intensity training, rowing, functional training, body weight suspension training and virtual classes.

To inspire and motivate guests while working out, the new Fitness Center also includes numerous custom interior design elements including a green wall and yoga mural in the virtual fitness area, sandcastle-colored flooring, and an orange gradient wall covering in the functional zone to convey a feeling of training outside at sunset. Also new is a custom amenities area with a state-of-the-art water bottle-fill station and chilled towels.

The new Fitness Center includes numerous custom design elements, including a green wall and yoga mural in the virtual fitness area, sandcastle-colored flooring, and an orange gradient wall covering in the functional zone to convey a feeling of training outside at sunset.

New on-site equipment is extensive, including the innovative Peloton Commercial Bike—a technological first for regional travelers. Futuristic enhancements also include the new Max-Trainer from leading cardio manufacturer Octane, along with recently introduced Life Fitness cardio machines which synch with Apple GymKit.

Open to registered hotel guests and area residents joining the hotel’s new fitness membership program, the Fitness Center presents the following innovations:

Advanced new Peloton Bikes with commercial-grade hardware and software, now regarded as the most socially connected and immersive indoor bikes available. The commercial Peloton is Fitbit-compatible and offers unlimited access to studio cycling classes. Guests can ride to daily live cycling classes streamed directly from Peloton’s NYC studio, or they can choose from 4,000+ on-demand workouts ranging in difficulty, length, and theme. They can track their progress with in-depth metrics and can race other riders on a real-time leaderboard. The bikes’ 22-inch high-definition, sweat-proof touch-screens fully immerse riders in every class, bringing the power of studio fitness directly into the Renaissance Indian Wells hotel setting. Local desert trails are among the included workout video options.

Octane makes its first hotel appearance, and its only fitness center appearance anywhere in the desert, as it presents its new Max-Trainer at Renaissance Indian Wells. The Max-Trainer hybrid climber is a bold new high-intensity interval training machine which delivers ultra-efficient metabolic conditioning. It fuels major results in cardio, functional training, and small group workouts.

Life Fitness brings its treadmills, ellipticals, PowerMill Climber, and recumbent bikes to the Fitness Center, all providing Apple GymKit connectivity. This allows guests to pair their Apple Watches wirelessly and seamlessly to exchange data between the watch and machine. Once connected, Apple Watch and the machine exchange data such as heart rate, calories burned, distance, speed and incline, ensuring that the metrics on the machine match what users sees on their watches.

TRX brings further innovation to the Renaissance Indian Wells Indian Wells Fitness Center, thanks to its new TRX Suspension Trainer. Workout highlights include functional training zones, as well as body weight suspension training—and whether the guest is a beginner or advanced in functional and suspension training, the TRX Suspension Bay also includes free access to the TRX app via an iPad for the latest in workouts and guided instruction.

The Woodway Curve Trainer, another very rare find in the hotel world, is a completely manual treadmill which allows a user to accelerate and decelerate at any desired pace, without the need to push a button. Guests can burn up to 30 percent more calories on this completely self-powered machine. The customizable display console allows future guests to experience famous Coachella Valley trails while on the treadmill, including “Bump and Grind” and the “Cove to the Lake” trails.

Fitness On Demand: Virtual on-demand classes such as yoga, plyoga, tone & shred, and Jillian Michaels “Hard Body” are available in the Center’s newly created, semi-private “Virtual Fitness Class Zone.”

Sandbags, widely used in boutique fitness centers, including elite performance, Crossfit, Bootcamps, MMA, and Boxing Clubs, are available as an additional training option to the standard dumbbells, barbells, or medicine balls.

New Kettlebells at Renaissance Indian Wells have been imported from the UK’s leading fitness product designer and supplier, Jordan Fitness.

The new Fitness Center at Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa was custom designed, developed, and equipped by Growth Fitness Marketing & Design of Laguna Beach, California. RENAISSANCEINDIANWELLS.COM
